Open to schools, residents, organizations, and businesses

  • School projects should be completed by: Mar. 21, 2022

  • The program is open year-round for businesses, organizations, and families.

Help make our streets and sidewalks safer for pedestrians and motorists! Schools, groups, families, and businesses can adopt, clean, and paint medians, sidewalks, or crosswalks in their villages. GCEA will provide the supplies. Students, you will earn service hours for your participation. Sign up here! Together, We Can!

Notes for Teachers, Parents, and Youth Ambassadors for how to participate:

  • Gather a group of students and parents to adopt medians, sidewalks, or crosswalks around the school. GCEA can provide the supplies. Activities can take a few hours to a few days, and most projects can be completed within a weekend. Please ensure proper supervision at all times to keep everyone safe.

  • High school teachers and students can submit sign-in sheets with students’ volunteer hours to obtain service hour credits.

  • Thank you for helping us to make our streets and villages safer for everyone!

MVP BUS STOP BEAUTIFICATION CONTEST

Open to schools, resdients, organizations, and businesses

Beautify, design, and paint a bus stop in your village and compete for awesome prizes! Show us what makes your village unique and beautiful. Download the application at cnmieconomy.com and submit it by Feb. 16 (coming soon). Students earn service hours for their participation.

Bus stops designs can include colors and icons that best represent the village. Consider including the village/school’s mascot, team colors, recognizable landmarks, and unique features.

Goal: To beautify more than 20 bus stops in Saipan, four (4) in Rota, and two to three (2-3) in Tinian

High schools that participate and adopt a bus stop will earn points toward cash prizes!

MVP VILLAGE FLAG ART CONTEST

Open to all middle and high school students throughout The Marianas

Help inspire the design for your village’s flag! Use your artistic talents to share what makes your village special, unique, and a great place to live.

MVP Village Flag Art  Contest Dates:

  • Contest Dates: Oct. 5 – Mar. 31, 2022

  • Submission Date: Feb. 18, 2022

  • Display in the community: Feb. 19 – Mar. 13, 2022

  • Judging: Mar. 7-13, 2022

  • Announcement of winners: Mar. 31, 2022

Contest Criteria:

  1. Using the 11" x 8.5" WIDE template, draw your vision for your village’s flag. Click here to download the template.

  2. On the backside of your drawing, tell us in 100 words or less about your design -- the images, scenes, landmarks, flora, fauna, or symbols you included. We want to know what makes your village unique and special

  3. Students must submit their artwork to their teachers by the contest deadline on Feb. 18

  4. Entries will be displayed in the community (location will be announced)

  5. Judges will score each piece on originality, how it met the criteria, and the idea expressed in the description

  6. Winning entries will be featured on GCEA’s Facebook page, where we will invite the community to like and share the artwork.

  7. The artwork with the most likes will receive the People’s Choice award

  8. GCEA will announce the winners and award prizes from the contest’s sponsors on Mar. 31

  9. Each participant will receive a certificate of participation

  10. GCEA will use the winning artwork as inspiration to produce flags for each village in 2022

High schools will earn points based on participation and have the chance to win cash prizes at the end of the campaign period! Winners to be announced in 2022.

 

Contest Requirements:

  • Students must compose (1) one original flag artwork using the provided 11" x 8.5" WIDE template, which can be found here.

  • Students must print the following information on the backside of their artwork:

  • Full name

  • Village of residence (this must be the village flag you design)

  • School’s name

  • Grade level

  • Description of the artwork (100 words or less)

  • Students should also write their names on the lower right corner on the front of the page.

 

Notes for Middle and High School Teachers:

  1. Encourage students to have conversations about what it means to have village pride and ways they can make their villages better places to live.

  2. Discuss what each student believes makes her/his/their village unique.

  3. Identify historic sites in the same village as your school and learn about their history.

  4. Ask students to write an essay about why the student is proud to be from her/his/their village.

  5. Host a verbal spelling contest to spell the villages’ names correctly.

  6. Have students compete on who can name the most villages from memory.

  7. Have students brainstorm ways that they can be MVPs and exchange MVP cards with their classmates. If they like, they can post their MVP cards on Facebook or Instagram and tag @cnmieconomy to be featured. (MVP card template is available for download on this page.)

  8. Encourage students to like and share the online MVP cards found on GCEA’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

  9. Supervise students to organize a beautification event at school. Send GCEA your photos to be featured on the Council’s social media pages.

  10. Adopt a median, sidewalk, or crosswalk around the school. GCEA can provide the supplies.

 

  • For the MVP Village Flag contest:

  • Please compile the entries and ensure that the students include the required information listed above.

  • Students should design a flag for the village in which they live. This activity is designed to help students connect with their villages and community.

  • Entries should be compiled by school and delivered to the PSS headquarters by October 28. Private schools can email GCEA at gceacnmi@gmail.com to arrange for pick up. GCEA will pick up the entries on October 29.

  • Teachers, we would like to ask for your support in filling out and presenting certificates of participation to each student who submits artwork for the contest. The certificate can be downloaded here.

  • Kindly present the certificates to students on Nov. 16.

Notes for Elementary School Teachers:

  • Other ideas for activities include the following:

  1. Supervise students to do a clean-up event at school. Send GCEA your photos to be featured on the Council’s social media pages. A prerequisite to this activity can be a discussion about the importance of keeping villages, schools, community centers, and streets clean.

  2. Gather parents of students from your school to adopt a median, sidewalk, or crosswalk around the school. GCEA can provide the supplies. Sign up here or send an email to GCEA at gceacnmi@gmail.com.

  3. Encourage students to talk about what makes them proud of where they live.

  4. Talk about how each person can make their villages better places to live.

  5. Identify landmarks in the same village as your school. Show photos of the sites and talk about what makes each one significant.

  6. Hosting a spelling contest to spell the villages’ names correctly.

  7. Submit a video of your class stating they’re MVPs and encourage other students to be MVPs, too!

  8. Create your MVP cards about how students can be MVPs at school and in the classroom. Share an MVP card each day or week with your students.

  9. Display the students’ village drawings on campus for others to enjoy and learn more about other villages or perspectives.

  • Teachers who would like to share their students’ work can scan or photograph the lesson and email them to gceacnmi@gmail.com.

  • Teachers, we would like to ask for your support in filling out and presenting certificates of participation to each student who completes the lessons. The certificate can be downloaded from the MVP webpage (coming soon). Kindly present the certificates to students on Nov. 16 or later.
